‘Dubai authorities have ordered a range of fruit flavoured drink to be withdrawn from supermarket shelves after it was found to contain excessive amounts of alcohol’

I am not sure why soft-drinks and juices have alcohol in them but I’m surprised that this time it was Snapple. Honestly, the only Snapple flavor I’ve liked was ‘Peach Flavored Tea’ and now I think I know why. The ‘Peach Flavored Tea’ and the Fruit Punch Mixed Drink’ contained 0.05% & 0.48% of alcohol respectively.

The legal driving limit with alcohol content in blood is lesser 0.1% in most countries and the second drink could have landed many in jail. But before that, I hope the company gets sued for selling these drinks in a Muslim country where adults and children alike consume soft drinks and juices.

I’ve been actively following the latest in the illegal expat crackdowns happening around Kuwait ever since I landed here earlier this month. I appreciate the initiative taken by the regime and the police alike since illegal activities had been around as long as I can remember.

Among all the other crimes, using one’s own vehicle as a private taxi is seen as a major offense. I’ve seen many people offer taxi services outside the malls, restaurants, marina and in downtown Kuwait City. I wondered how the cops would actually catch them in the act after putting the potential offenders on alert of such crimes.

Turns out the cops are pretty smart. The police, working undercover, pose as potential customers and flag down private cars which are not legitimate taxis. If offered a ride, the undercover cop asks the driver about the different rates they charge and after learning enough about his illegal business he is arrested.

I learned about this police strategy from a friend whose private driver got arrested because the driver used the car as a taxi when he took the car for filling fuel, or on his way to/from home after dropping/picking a family member off somewhere.

Please be alert and don’t offer strangers a ride even you’re doing it as a favor. Also the same goes if you’re looking for taxis, only use legitimate ones. Stay safe my friends!
